Nizwa was the old capital of Oman during the reign of the father of Sultan Qaboos, Sultan Said bin Taimur. It was once the center of trade, religion, education, and art. The urban center of Nizwa lies amid a verdant spread of date palms, highlighted by the great stone fort and the golden-domed mosque. Its lively souq is a must-see, especially on Fridays when the farmers hold a cattle market.
Jebel Akhdar (Green Mountain) is part of the Al Hajar Mountain range. With its green terraces and stunning views, Jebel Ahkdar is one of Oman’s most beautiful spots to visit. Known for its year-round pleasant temperatures (even in the summer) and for its traditional rose water, honey, and agricultural products, it is very popular with the local population. We will reach the Sayq Plateau after a 2.5hr drive from Barka, but will pass through the Wadi Bani Habib valley on the way, which houses two old and abandoned villages. 100 Stairs lead into a valley of pomegranate and almond trees to the first village, and an old donkey trail leads us further to the second village. After leaving the Wadi we will do a short trek between the two districts of Al Ayn village to get a great view of the multileveled gardens.

Jebel al Akhdar
